Rozbeh Asmani
Immaterial - June 02 until July 07, 2018

We are proud to announce the second solo show of new works by Rozbeh Asmani at Gallery Klein in Cologne, Germany.

If it's true that the consumer world is stealing our childhood, then Asmani must be
our Robin Hood. (Michael Kohler: art Magazine, 9/2017)

Rozbeh Asmani deals artistically with the aesthetics of capitalism. In 2009 he begins his research for colours registered by German Trademark and Patent Office. When colours are used exclusively by companies for their corporate identity, they influence our collective memory. Rozbeh Asmani transforms information from the trademark register in his artworks produced in various industrial reproduction media such as screen printing, C-print, offset or foil printing

Three-dimensional shapes are also used exclusively by corporations. Chocolate praline, coffee filter bag or chips bag, there is a long list of protected forms. Rozbeh Asmani appropriates in his casts these forms and transforms them into true to original sculptures made of bronze, nickel silver or plaster coated with liquorice extract as recently for a sculpture of eighteen coal briquettes.

One look at the works of Rozbeh Asmani is enough to recall not only the brand context but also the time and circumstances of the encounter with these goods and services. It is with astonishment and horror that the world of consumption has also entered one's own memory.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalogue which gives an overview of all groups of works by Rozbeh Asmani´s from 2012 until today.

Rozbeh Asmani was born in Shiraz (Iran) in 1983. He lives and works in Cologne (Germany). 2015 -2018 he is member of the Young College of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts in Düsseldorf.

Until May 2018, 72 colourmarks by Rozbeh Asmani were displayed on 54 advertising pillars throughout Cologne. The edition KHM Künstlerbücher contains the volume Litfaß/Kiosk, which documents the project. It is available in the gallery.

Rozbeh Asmanis wall painting Himmelblau (4,30 x 8,40 m) as well as prints and sculptures are part of the groupshow KUNST & KOHLE, SchichtWechsel at Museum Ostwall im Dortmunder U. ( - 12.8.)
