The legislation that reformed trademark law in 1995 allows corporations to trademark colours as part of their corporate identity. Back then, purple/violet was registered as the first colour mark in connection with chocolate at the patent and trademark office. Since then, an increasing number of corporations compete for a claim to intellectual property of "their" colours.

Rozbeh Asmani artistically explores the aesthetics of capitalism. His work series Colourmarks is the product of his on-going research into the field of colour trademarks registered at the German Patent and Trademarl Office. He visualizes their impact on our collective memory. Confronted with the question what these colours stand for, the beholders attention is raised tot he complex link between colour, power and memory.

72 Colourmarks have been produced with 95 spot colours an CYMK. A special edition of 24 copies will be published each with three different, numbered and signed Colourmark Offsetprints. Prize: 360 €

Rozbeh Asmani, 72 Colourmarks, Spector Books, Leipzig, 2017. 164 pages, Hardcover, German/Englisch, text by Marc Ries. ISBN 978-3-95905-152-1, prize: 70 €.
