Bettina Blohm
landscape and line - drawings - May 29 until July 10, 2010

"Drawing is the most direct, honest or humble visual medium. You cannot lie with drawing. From a drawn line you can immediately see the temperament of the artist."
(Bettina Blohm 2004)

Since 1995, Bettina Blohm has been drawing in nature, "en plein air". The size of the paper is always the same: 7x9inch, as well as the pencils: colored pencil and conte crayon. The materials stay the same but the landscape and the mood of the artist changes.

Bettina Blohm sits in landscapes in the U.S., for example in the Catskill Mountains near New York or in Provincetown, Cape Cod, and in Europe, in Ibiza, in Cornwall, in Berlin. Surrounded by lakes, hills and repeatedly trees, she records with spare lines and powerful hatching what she sees and what she feels.

A native of Hamburg, she has lived and worked in New York since 1984. In 2009, she established a second studio in Berlin where she spends several months a year. Here, she produced the series of works that – including some paintings - will be at the center of her first show at the gallery.
