Hanns Schimansky
- so and so - November 07 until December 05, 2020

Due to the current requirements and recommendations for handling the corona virus, we are postponing the planned opening for November, 11th, 2020.

The second exhibition of the gallery's anniversary year is dedicated to the sign cosmos of Hanns Schimansky.

The paper works of Hanns Schimansky tell of the wandering of the pencil
or the pen over the paper, from folding large sheets of paper, they tell of
the hand of the artist, which leaves manifold traces on the paper.

Schimansky is fascinated by papers, their surface properties and their colours. He explores the surface of a sheet of paper with the most varied feathers, observing the penetration or sitting of the ink as he does so. The abstract traces sometimes suggest more and sometimes less associations. We show an extensive group of current small-format sheets (20.5 x 29.5 cm) next to selected larger pen drawings.

The coloured folds, some of which we show from the years 2018 and 2019,
show as much as they cover up. The front and back of a sheet of paper become equally visible, fragments of lines meet areas of colour. Where do they begin? How do they continue? These questions arise during the observation. The result of a folding process is always a surprise for the artist himself.

Most recently, works by Hanns Schimansky were shown as part of the collection presentation at the Metropolitan Musem in New York. In 2021 the graphic collection of the Museum Pfalzgalerie in Kaiserlautern will dedicate an extensive exhibition to the artist.
