Karoline Bröckel - Drawings
15 Years Galerie Werner Klein
in Handelsblatt

Handelsblatt

We are proud to announce the forth solo exhibition of drawings by Karoline Bröckel, the anniversary exhibition of 15 years Galerie Werner Klein, Cologne.

In my drawings I visualize the dynamics that I perceive in my everyday surroundings.
Often there are moments with origins in the natural world.: the path taken by an ant, rain falling onto the pavement, snowflakes that tumble from the sky, or the branches and twigs of a birch tree in the wind. (Karoline Bröckel)

The drawing utensil functions here in the spirit of Rene Descartes´ extension of the human organ of perception. It makes visible what the artist sees. More precisely: The seeing eye and the moving hand, the optic and haptic processes are put on equal footing; together, they form a sensory apparatus and transfer the movement impulses received from outside and without hesitation onto the paper. These movement impulses defy easy availability and control by the artist. (Hans Jürgen-Lechtreck in catalogue Drawing as Process, Museum Folkwang Essen, 2008)

Karoline Bröckel was born 1964 in Tübingen (Germany). Her drawings are part of major German public Collections as Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, museum kunst palast Düsseldorf, Museum Folkwang Essen, Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, Staatliche Grafische Sammlung Munich and Collection Deutscher Bundestag.
